A London Address to Linger In: The Lanesborough’s reimagined Presidential Suite.

A London itinerary tends to fill itself. A gallery before lunch, a little shopping, theatre tickets tucked into the evening. Yet a room can make a persuasive case for leaving part of the day unplanned. Especially when there is a garden terrace, a view of Wellington Arch, and somewhere comfortable to settle with a book.
At The Lanesborough, Studio Pierre-Yves Rochon has reimagined the Presidential Suite, overlooking Hyde Park Corner, with the rhythms of a private home in mind. There are places to gather, places to retreat, and details that reward a closer look.
The interiors build on Alberto Pinto’s earlier Regency scheme, retaining selected fabrics, furniture, mirrors, and carpets. Cream and warm white lighten the palette, while new plasterwork draws on Robert Adam's classical designs. The pleasure is in the combination: rooms with a sense of history and enough freshness to make that history feel easy to live with.
In the principal bedroom, pale Wedgwood blue sets the mood. Existing Tassinari silk curtains remain, joined by striped silk taffeta, velvet, cashmere, and floral embroidery. A revised canopy treatment opens the view towards the decorated ceiling and chandelier. It is a room to notice slowly, from the textiles to the marquetry furniture.
The bathroom deserves its own time. A wider opening connects it to the bedroom, and the bath has been repositioned beside the window, with a view over the square. Drapery and crystal-detailed fittings give it the character of a room intended for lingering. A long soak belongs on the itinerary, too.
The lounge makes room for the companionable hours of a stay. One seating group gathers around the fireplace; another occupies the far end, with a desk behind it. Depending on the configuration, an adjoining room becomes a dining room. It is easy to picture an evening that begins with conversation and carries on over dinner, without anyone reaching for a coat.
Outside, the garden terrace introduces a different pace. Camellias and other planting create enclosure while preserving the outlook towards Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch. A fireplace lends itself to cooler evenings, and a sheltered writing desk faces the view. Perhaps this is where the postcards finally get written.
The residence can be arranged with one, two, three, or five bedrooms, allowing shared living spaces and individual retreats for families or friends traveling together. Around-the-clock butler service attends to practical details, from unpacking to arranging in-suite dining.
London remains just beyond the door. The pleasure is having somewhere that makes coming back part of the day’s appeal.
