One Aldwych: London, Curated

Few hotels in London can truly call themselves independent. One Aldwych is one of them. Standing confidently at the gateway to Covent Garden, this singular hotel feels deeply rooted in its surroundings while remaining refreshingly its own.
Housed in a magnificent Edwardian building originally constructed in 1905 as the headquarters of The Morning Post, One Aldwych balances heritage with contemporary ease. The result is a hotel that feels both storied and lived-in, elegant without pretense, and unmistakably London.
We often describe One Aldwych as the hotel for Londoners at heart, wherever they may be from, because it places guests at the center of the city’s creative pulse. Theatreland unfolds just beyond the doors, with world-class dining, museums, boutiques, and galleries within easy reach. Many of the West End’s most celebrated theatres are less than a 15-minute walk away, making the hotel an ideal base for cultural immersion.
Yet London’s magic often lies beyond the obvious. The hidden courtyards, quiet gardens, historic side streets, and under-the-radar shops reward those who know where to look. To help guests experience the city at this deeper level, One Aldwych has assembled a remarkable collection of Curators. Each is an expert in their field, ready to open doors and share London through a more intimate lens.
With its carefully curated cultural connections, One Aldwych offers more than a place to sleep. It offers a way to belong. Guided by experts who know the city from the inside out, you are invited to explore London not as visitors, but as Londoners.
Meet the Curators
With her finger firmly on the pulse of London’s performing arts scene, Silvia Melchior brings unparalleled insight to One Aldwych’s cultural offerings. Her career spans prestigious institutions including the Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, and English National Ballet. Today, as Director of Development at the acclaimed Donmar Warehouse, she plays a vital role in shaping one of London’s most respected non-profit theatres.
Through her partnership with One Aldwych, Silvia creates rare opportunities for guests to step behind the curtain. From supporter evenings and post-show conversations to exclusive behind-the-scenes access, she transforms the theatre-going experience into a personal and immersive one. Her approach makes London’s vibrant arts world feel welcoming, relevant, and unforgettable.
Master silhouettist Charles Burns brings a quieter, deeply evocative art form to life at One Aldwych. Widely regarded as the UK’s leading silhouette artist, Burns revived an almost-lost English tradition through self-taught dedication and remarkable skill. His work has been featured at some of London’s most sought-after events, and he famously cut the silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II on three occasions.
Guests may join Charles for a stroll along the Strand to uncover the overlooked history of silhouette portraiture, or sit back in the Lobby Bar as he captures their likeness by hand. It is an experience that invites stillness, conversation, and connection, a moment of artistry suspended in time.
