The Theater “Seen” From A Broadway Producer

an interview with Sally Horchow, a two-time Tony-nominated Broadway producer and Founder of SHIP

My late father, Roger Horchow, me, and my boyfriend, John Seitz (2013 Tony Awards, my dad and I were nominated for the revival of ANNIE).

We were honored to interview our friend, Sally Horchow, a two-time Tony-nominated Broadway producer (ANNIE, TOOTSIE), about her newest project, best shows, and other inside "intel" from the international theater scene! Sally splits her time between New York and Los Angeles and is currently in London, producing the West End revival of the Tony Award-winning Gershwin musical comedy CRAZY FOR YOU.

Tell us about your new play? Where can we catch it?

It's a revival of the Tony Award-winning Gershwin musical comedy CRAZY FOR YOU, which starts June 24th for a 30-week limited run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in the West End! It’s a riotously entertaining toe-tapper of a show with the most talented performers in the West End that will leave you joy-filled, laughing, and singing in the aisles. The Gershwins said it best: Who could ask for anything more?

London has almost become your second home. Any favorite spots and hidden gems?

My "commissary" near our theatre is the Delauney, which is great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We love to stay at the Covent Garden Hotel (Firmdale) - which I love for its private library, where we always end up discussing the show we've just seen, with a glass of wine and ice cream from the Honour Bar. My favorite hidden gem in Covent Garden is the tiny chic Oystermen Seafood Bar & Kitchen, which I learned about from a chef I know - so I knew it would be a find!

What are some of the most unique performing arts venues you've visited?

The Bridge Theatre in London is a very cool contemporary space with a view of the Tower of London that was built in 2017. It can seat 900 but is transformed for every different production, including the current immersive, multi-level revival of GUYS & DOLLS.

Travel has always been part of your life, from your early years being a travel writer to becoming a producer and an avid traveler overall; what are some of your favorite locations you traveled to, and what made them so memorable?

My boyfriend John and I finally got to go on Safari in Kenya last fall, and it was as life-enhancing as we dreamed. There's something about the simplicity of witnessing the "circle of life" (thank you, Tim Rice & Sir Elton — I can't escape my Broadway ties!) that puts everything else in perspective. Impossible to describe. Best trip ever. Just GO!
