True, our vision of France always includes Paris, the Riviera, Normandy, and macarons, but that’s not all there is! Be it for your first trip or tenth trip to France, we always love to suggest off-the-beaten-path areas that will make you fall for France even stronger.

Below are some of these unique destinations we hope you’ll discover with us.

CORSICA

Who it is for: Active, Trendy, Families, Romantic, Solo, Multigen

Pairs well with: France in general

A natural paradise, Corsica boasts pristine waters and beaches (have you ever googled Palombaggia Beach?) as well as challenging hikes. We love to include days on the water with a skipper, guided tours to celebrated cities like Calvi and Bonifacio, but also to remote hilltop villages. A new wave of hotels and private homes in Corsica have definitely brought a natural glam vibe to the island.

Cap Ferret.jpg

THE WEST COAST

Who it is for: Families, Romantic, Active, Solo, Multigen, Trendy

Pairs well with: Paris, Loire Valley

Between rural immersion and coastal living, there is so much to see and do on Ile de Ré, around Cap Ferret, and in the Basque Country! Go there for watersports (surf, rafting, etc.), colorful markets, delicious foods, and intimate yet chic hotels. Oh, and yes, Bordeaux and Cognac are indeed along the West Coast if you want to squeeze in a few tastings.

LOIRE VALLEY

Who it is for: Pioneers, Families, Romantic, Solo, History Buffs, Horticulturalists

Pairs well with: Paris, West Coast

The Loire Valley was the preferred vacation destination for the Kings of France and their nobility. This rich history has left countless castles and estates to tour, enchanting gardens to walk, and picturesque cities to explore. Biking in the Loire Valley is second only to wine tasting favorites like Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, and Vouvray.

French Alps.jpg

THE ALPS IN THE SUMMER

Who it is for: Active, Families, Romantic, Solo, Multigen

Pairs well with: Paris, Provence, Burgundy

The French Alps ski resorts need to introduction. It is little known, however, that this region is spectacular in the summer as well. From hiking and antique shopping in the lovely town of Megève to boating around Lake Annecy, you can’t get bored! Lyon and Geneva are within reach and offer additional cultural experiences for everyone.

Calanques.jpg

PROVENCE (THE OUT-OF-THE WAY ONE)

Who it is for: Families, Romantic, Active, Solo, Multigen, History Buffs

Pairs well with: France in general

It doesn’t get any better than sipping rosé in the South of France…no argument there. But next time, consider adding some more hidden parts of Provence like Camargue, the Calanques, or the Luberon. This is where you can meet France’s wild horses, marvel at the lavender fields, swim in crystal-clear coves like the locals do, and learn about Europe’s history from the Romans to the Middle Ages.

THE GREAT EAST

Who it is for: Families, Active, Romantic, Solo, History Buffs

Pairs well with: Paris, Burgundy

You might have visited Champagne as a day trip from Paris but have you traveled further east to Alsace? Bordering Germany, Alsace’s unique history has left its mark on the local architecture and culture. From charming towns to monumental fortresses, and from delectable Riesling wine to iconic Christmas markets, there are treasures to be discovered all over the region.

ALBI & PAYS CATHAR

Who it is for: Pioneers, Families, Solo, History Buffs

Pairs well with: Paris, Provence

The medieval heritage of this often-overlooked part of France fascinates children and adults alike. Explore castles and hiding grounds, visit authentic villages, and bike on ancient country roads. Further north, the Albi Cathedral is probably the most stunning in all of France.

THE PYRENEES

Who it is for: Pioneers, Active, Solo

Pairs well with: West Coast, Pays Cathar

The Pyrenees separate France from Spain. Often overshadowed by the Alps, the Pyrenees are ideal for anyone looking for remote hiking, striking landscapes, and authentic experiences. From farm visits to picnics in the fields, a stop in the Pyrenees never disappoints.

AUVERGNE

Who it is for: Pioneers, Active, Solo

Pairs well with: Paris, Loire Valley

Auvergne is one of the most unknown parts of France. Right in the middle of the country, it is a land of extinct volcanoes and dense forests. Go there for sensational hiking, historic little towns, and cheese! Definitely a summer destination, Auvergne has yet to receive upscale accommodations.
